Biosecurity to protect against Coronavirus – Covid 19
Dear Customer
As the Prime Minister is now encouraging people to return to work where working from home is not possible, from 18th May 2020, The Leisure Vehicle Artisan (France) will once again be back in circulation and at your continued service (where it is safe to do so).
In this strange world we are now forced to live in looking after our health and general well-being has perhaps become more important to us all. The Government Lockdown of our country has made many of us realise how important our freedom is too. Freedom is of course at the heart of the leisure vehicle industry and we still need to service, repair and/or upgrade our various vehicles that very often are our pride-and-joy. Once the lockdown is over, thoughts turn to preparing our vehicles to take us on long overdue journeys and holidays. Inevitably, some will experience issues with equipment failure, ruined batteries, etc. But how do we get our vehicles repaired or serviced without putting ourselves at risk of the dreaded Coronavirus? It is a hidden enemy that can be lurking anywhere, and with leisure vehicles taken to dealerships you have no idea who, or indeed how many people are in your vehicle or any idea of what anti-Covid precautions have been taken. So what can one do?
Well, The Leisure Vehicle Artisan (France) has the answer. It is called "Biosecurity". (Being ex-MoD, such a term seems most appropriate!). Instead of taking your leisure vehicle to a workshop with the incumbent hassles of getting it there, getting back home and then collecting it again, why not make use of my mobile service? You will have only one engineer in your vehicle, you can see what is going on at any time; actually speak to a qualified, knowledgeable and enthused person who has your safety at the core of activities. Good words but what does that mean in practice? Well please read on and all will be revealed!
Biosecurity - "Procedures or measures designed to protect the population against harmful biological or biochemical substances."
"Having replaced a new leisure battery in my Autosleeper van conversion at the end of last year, I was concerned that the battery appeared to be losing charge. Eventually when I went for a long run with the fridge running on engine-generated 12v, I saw at the end of the journey that the 12v system had failed completely and ascertained that the battery was essentially dead. Before installing a new leisure battery and having witnessed the excellent work of The Leisure Vehicle Artisan (France) previously, I contacted Ian Blundell with a request to check the relevant electrics out. Although I am a “shielded “ person and particularly wary of Covid-19 , I was confident that Ian would have the issue of protection fully under control, I was not disappointed on either count. Ian quickly and systematically isolated the problems with the electrics and I was soon up and running again. At the same time Ian was taking all due precaution not only with respect to social distancing but also with special protective measures such as decontamination of the keys and the facility to undertake a professional and swift but thorough decontamination of the interior of the vehicle when he had finished the work. Congratulations to Ian again for his excellent and swift problem solving and his impeccable Covid-19 protection strategy.
If you need work done but have anxieties about the safety aspects, it is really worth taking a look at The Leisure Vehicle Artisan website"
By now we are all probably fed up with the term “Social distancing”. Once considered impolite (so apologies up front for not shaking hands), keeping ones distance is now part of every-day life and one of the most effective precautions against catching Covid-19. Using my service, this is easily achieved. No often cramped or overcrowded reception rooms to walk into, no dirty or potentially contaminated counter tops to worry about
Washing ones hands is also an effective precaution and I’m sure you have seen more than enough advice on that. But have you seen the condition of some workshop toilets and sinks? Well without going further into that because as in most things there are good and bad (and the disgusting!). My mobile workshop is equipped with a sink, soap and water supplies and always has been. Towels are regularly washed thoroughly too.
Often the downside in having workmen/contractors visiting your home is that they have to enter your house to at least use the toilet and of course wash hands (or at least we hope so..!). However, my mobile workshop is additionally equipped with a toilet too. So there is no need for me to enter your premises at all, giving you greater security and of course better protection against Covid-19 being brought over the threshold.
My vehicle is equipped with a professional-grade hand-care station. It contains dispensers for barrier cream, hand cleaner and hand sanitizer. This is an original facility fitted within my vehicle but is now part of my anti-coronavirus armoury!
In addition to the contents of the hand care station described above, I now additionally carry World Health Organisation (WHO) grade Hand Sanitizer containing 70% alcohol. Interestingly this particular brand is made by a local company, so in turn I along with others are helping support them.
Keys are a transmission medium and are clearly needed to be passed to me and back again to you, the Customer, once work is completed. To deal with this I carry an USB powered UV sterilisation box. To maintain social distancing, I place the box somewhere suitable and back away. You move forward to place the keys inside and then retreat. I move forward again to take the box and commence the sterilisation process, after which I can safely use the keys. Once tasks are completed, we simply reverse the process and you safely take back re-sterilised keys.
My vehicle is equipped with professional-grade First Aid and Eye-wash stations. Another original fit facility.
Although not usually necessary, I carry supplies of face masks. So if for any unlikely reason social distancing has to be lessened, these can be worn.
Hand contact points can of course be where bacteria can be present and so should be wiped with anti-bacterial wipes.. I carry a supply of these and will, if required, clean door/cupboard handles etc. However, some customers may wish to carry out this process themselves for peace of mind. Please let me know if you wish me NOT to carry out final touch-point cleaning.
I carry supplies of single-use protective latex gloves. Good at keeping hands clean, but great for stopping cross-contamination, particularly when used in conjunction with anti-bacterial wipes and Steri-7.
For payment I normally accept cash, cheques, leading credit/debit and bank transfer (BACS) (providing I have a phone signal!). I would prefer payment by credit/debit card or BACS as these are the safest methods from a transmission perspective. Any cash or cheques will be sterilized in my UV sterilisation box as described above.
"The Leisure Vehicle Artisan' himself, Mr Ian Blundell, receives an enormous THANK YOU for helping me out in my hour of need.
My Hobby motorhome is my home, I live in it as well as drive it to and from work. I am a key worker on the front line so it is imperative that everything in my van works properly to enable me to keep well so I can continue working at this very difficult time. This very much includes heating my home to keep me warm especially at this time of year with freezing early morning starts and cold evenings.
My Truma Combi boiler broke down to the point of no repair so Ian went out of his way to help me. He potentially put himself at risk, firstly to come and diagnose the problem with my van and once the new combi heating system arrived, to come back, fit it and in record time. Removing the old system and fitting the new one should have taken a day to a day and a half (due to the lack of access) but he worked quickly, efficiently and cleanly and managed to complete the task in under a day!
I am incredibly grateful to Ian and would not hesitate in highly recommending his workmanship, efficiency and work ethics. Thanks again Ian!"
My personal safety and that of other customers
As an additional level of protection, I would strongly recommend that you do not enter your leisure vehicle for a minimum of 3 days before my arrival and avoid entry for 3 days after my departure. In the unlikely event that Covid-19 bacteria are present, after 3 days they should be dead before you enter the vehicle.
Where water tanks are required to be filled for a habitation service for instance, be they internal or external, if possible please fill and make available 3 days before your booking (Noting prevailing weather conditions and possibility of freezing however).
It should go without saying that if I become symptomatic of having potentially contracted Coronavirus then I will immediately self-isolate and contact booked customers to reschedule. Equally I would respectfully request that if anyone in your household is symptomatic prior to my arrival, please do call in to cancel and rearrange any booking. You will not be subject to any form of cancellation charge.
Please do not be offended if I enquire about anybody in the household being symptomatic. Clearly I do not want to be infected, but equally certainly do not wish to be an asymptomatic carrier for others.
I do reserve the right to immediately stop any job where I consider my safety and therefore that of other customers will be compromised. I hope that you understand my position.
